How to protect your account with two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) protects your account with a second security factor. In addition to the email code, you need a 6-digit code from an app on your smartphone.
Install an Authenticator app
Download an Authenticator app to your smartphone. Recommended: Google Authenticator, Authy or Microsoft Authenticator. All are free.
Activate 2FA in your profile
Open your profile and click "Set up 2FA" in the Security section.
Scan QR code
Open the Authenticator app and scan the displayed QR code. The app immediately shows a 6-digit code.
Store backup codes safely
You will receive one-time codes for emergencies. Store them safely (e.g. print and keep in a safe). These codes work when your smartphone is unavailable.
Your garage has multiple employees but only one muuva account? No problem. Here is how:
Example: Garage Müller, 3 employees
One-time setup
1. The manager opens the muuva profile and starts 2FA setup
2. A QR code appears on screen
3. All employees scan the same QR code with their phone:
Anna scans with Google Authenticator
Marco scans with Authy
Sarah scans with Microsoft Authenticator
All three phones now display the same code.
Tip: save the QR code as a screenshot and store it securely. This way new employees can be added later without repeating the setup for everyone.
Daily use
At the office PC, the code is rarely requested - the system recognises known devices.
The code is only needed on a new device or after a longer absence.
If a phone is lost
The other employees can continue to log in normally.
In an emergency: use backup codes from the safe.
For a new phone: reset 2FA and set up again with everyone.
Tip: keep the backup codes in a safe place known to at least two people. This ensures access even in an emergency.
Do I have to activate 2FA?
2FA is recommended but not mandatory. We recommend it for all dealer accounts as they have access to vehicle data and payment information.
What does 2FA cost?
Nothing. The Authenticator apps are free and 2FA is included in your muuva account.
Do I need Internet for the code?
No. The Authenticator app works completely offline. The code is generated on your device.
What if I change my phone?
Reset 2FA in your profile and set it up again with the new device. Use your backup codes in the meantime.
Is the code requested at every login?
No. Known devices and locations are recognised. The code is only requested on new devices, new IP addresses or after prolonged inactivity.
Which app do you recommend?
All three work equally well: Google Authenticator (simple), Authy (with backup) or Microsoft Authenticator. Choose the app you already know.
